Michael is a registered patent attorney with a background in chemistry and material science. He concentrates his practice in the area of intellectual property portfolio development and management, including patent preparation and prosecution, licensing, and strategic counseling. Michael counsels companies to develop intellectual property strategies – patent, trademarks, domain names, industrial designs, copyrights and trade secrets – to achieve both short- and long-term benefits, such as attracting investment, reducing commercial risk and providing successful exit strategies, by balancing the expense and degree of protection while taking into account market share, likelihood of infringement and enforceability.
Prior to joining Cohen & Grigsby, Michael was an attorney with Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery LLP in Chicago, Illinois. Michael’s graduate research focused on the biocompatibility of coronary artery stents and implantable biosensors coated with nitric oxide releasing polymers and polymers having immobilized Cu(II)-ligand sites that generated nitric oxide in vivo.
